What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are smooth yet thick injectables meant to restore volume to the mid-face. Your dermatologist carefully places fillers to build up volume gradually until they achieve a natural result that meets your anti-aging goals. 

Foothill Dermatology Center primarily uses hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, a variety that provides a soft, natural-looking result. HA in your body latches onto water molecules to lubricate your joints, hydrate your skin, and keep your eyes from drying out. 

Before allowing you to get fillers, your dermatologist conducts a skin evaluation to make sure they can safely deliver the products into your skin and tissues. You shouldn’t have any active skin infections, and you should stop the use of any blood-thinning medications before your treatment to avoid bruising.

How long do dermal fillers last?

HA dermal fillers are quite long-lasting, but they don’t remain in your skin holding volume forever. Your body eventually metabolizes them, but it can take months or years for this to happen. 

Some areas can hold fillers better than others, so the length of time you’ll enjoy your results varies based on the targeted area and the specific filler product. Some Juvéderm fillers last for 6-12 months on average, while others remain in place for around two full years.
